Wedding Preparation Basics

Wedding Preparation Basics

Congratulations are in order. You have decided to get married and the excitement of the proposal has most probably melted your heart into a puddle of mushy, gushy love where the thought of actually preparing the logistics of your wedding seems a long way in the distance. This is most likely to be one of the happiest moments in your life to date; so, make sure you enjoy it to the fullest! Savor the simplicity of this moment before you delve into the stressful, high octane world of fittings, lists, table arrangements and bridesmaid drama!

First things first!

After you have come down from your cloud, you should take time to sit down and talk to your partner about what is important to both of you; what will be the key components of your wedding? One of the main issues to deal with is how big you want your special day to be and, therefore, what kind of budget you will need to raise. It is hugely important that you and your partner are on the same page here! If possible, try to do this alone before discussing it with in-laws and friends. It is so easy to get railroaded if you haven’t got a clear idea of what you want.

Once you have decided on a rough headcount, you’ll face the difficult job of deciding who those seats will be occupied by! The best advice we could give is for you to make a huge list of everyone you would invite to your ideal wedding then work on whittling it down, if you must, to fit your real life wedding. You might also consider making up a reserve list too!

The location of your wedding is one of the biggest decisions to make. For example, will you get married at home or abroad? In your hometown or your partner’s? On the beach, next to a lake, in the mountains? Do you want a religious or civil ceremony? There are so many questions that need answering before you can so much as pick a color scheme!

After this is settled, you might want to consider what kind of food you wish to serve to your guests. Will you be serving an evening meal or a lunch buffet? This will obviously be affected by the time at which the ceremony occurs. You should also find out if any of your guests have special dietary requirements; vegetarian, vegan and gluten free dishes may be required. Once you know what you want, you should then consider who will do the catering. There are so many options available today which ensures that you’ll get what you want but the choice can be overwhelming!

The reception and the catering is generally the most expensive part of the wedding. Most people opt for a reception party, which will require music and lighting, too, so you should consider what kind of music you want. Are there any specific songs you would like the DJ to play? Do you want a band, DJ or performer? The question of an open bar is an expensive choice too.

Finally you’ll want everything to look the part, and there are a few things that contribute to this. Do you have a theme in mind? A natural, pagan-esque wedding might want loose, leaf-green bridesmaids dresses and flowing hairstyles. A glam wedding might have a black and white color scheme and super sleek decorations. Really think about how you can pull it together!

When there’s so much to think about, it would be easy to forget something so it’s worth sitting down with your partner to discuss and write a list of what needs to be done and who will take responsibility for it. A wedding planner can help greatly with these decision if you have space in your wedding budget while getting married in a hotel can take a lot of the logistical nightmares off your shoulders.
