Although every wedding is unique, most include bouquets for the bride and bridesmaids, boutonnieres for the groom and groomsmen, floral decor to enhance the ceremony, table centerpieces for the reception, and sometimes even floral designs for the hair. It is also lovely to get ready on your special day amongst fresh flowers, wherever that may be.
Color Scheme For Wedding Flowers
Perhaps the most important factor to consider when choosing wedding flowers is the color scheme of your wedding. Sometimes, a particular type of flower is so important to the bride that it inspires the entire look and feel of the nuptials. After a color theme or certain flower has taken precedence, details should be considered such as where the arrangements will be placed, how many bouquets and boutonnieres will be needed, and so on. An important detail that is easy to overlook is that some flowers are only available at very specific times of the year, so if they are an extremely important detail, the wedding date should correspond with their availability. Otherwise, be sure to plan your color scheme keeping in mind which flowers will be at the ready when you say “I do”.
Wedding Bouquets
The bride’s bouquet is often thought of as the most significant floral component, which is often the only arrangement needed for smaller, more intimate weddings. There are more than 20 bridal bouquet styles, and it is recommended that this element be selected after the dress has been chosen so that the shapes of each correlate with one another. Bridesmaids typically carry wedding flowers too, and often they are a smaller form of the bouquet carried by the bride.
Boutonnieres
The groom traditionally sports a boutonniere crafted from the same type of flowers used in the bridal bouquet, and this custom often extends to all the men in the wedding party such as groomsmen, the ring bearer and the fathers of the bride and groom. Not to be excluded, the mothers of the bride and groom will then also wear a corresponding corsage.
Centerpieces
Table centerpieces and floral decoration used for the ceremony and reception often take the bulk of a floral budget, so it is common for those working with a smaller budget to look for creative wedding decorations which don’t require too many floral arrangements. Wedding flower centerpieces, which are frequently coupled with candles for functional decor that gives everyone a beautiful glow, should correlate to the size of the table they will be placed upon.
