Honeymoon Vs Buddymoon: Redefining a Long Held Tradition

The time-honored tradition of taking a honeymoon is believed to have started as far back as the Sixteenth Century, when newlyweds would head off for a few days of intimacy and togetherness, and even a whole month in some cases.  Nowadays, while the main objective of creating memorable moments and intense bonding is still commonplace, the idea of a honeymoon has evolved, giving way to a variety of trendier traditions such as a baby-moon, a mini-moon and a maxi-moon.  These popular alternatives to the honeymoon are enticing, but it is the buddy-moon that has celebrities, socialites and everyone in general changing their definition of the best honeymoon ever.

Move over honey, this is a Buddymoon!

Move over honey, this is a Buddymoon!

As you have probably already imagined, a buddymoon is when newlyweds take their friends along for an extended wedding celebration.  Instead of the traditional vacation for two, the bride and groom invite their friends and families to share in the magic of taking a honeymoon, including them in just about every aspect of the trip.  This may seem ridiculous to some and it is quite clear that a buddymoon isn’t for everyone, however, there are many benefits to taking such a unique style of honeymoon.

For many, the choice to go on a buddymoon is a reasonable thing to do, especially with the rise of destination weddings, when guests have already traveled so far to be part of the big day.  In addition to the added fun of having your close friends tag along, buddymooners can get great group discounts, subsidized pricing on all-inclusive resort packages and a slew of other enticing treats just for traveling in large groups.  And of course, the fun factor is one of the largest pulls for couples who are thrilled to spend the time with an extended list of pals.

As celebrities, such as Alicia Keys, Blake Shelton and Jennifer Aniston, opt for this non-traditional after wedding vacation, more and more couples are jumping on the bandwagon.  As a result of its skyrocketing popularity, many all inclusive resorts in Mexico and other top vacation destinations around the world are offering sensational group rates and vacation packages that make buddy-mooning a more feasible plan for couples tying the knot.
