Honeymoon Mistakes

Honeymoon Mistakes

Every couple looks forward to their honeymoon as a trip that is supposed to bring them endless joy and romance.  It gives couples a chance to decompress after all of the stress and chaos that comes with having a wedding.  However, if you don’t plan your honeymoon well, your first vacation together as newlyweds might leave you less than satisfied.  Take a look at some of the most common honeymoon mistakes, and learn from them before you set out on yours:

Not Taking Time to Unwind

Sure, that vision you have of strolling together in Paris amongst the sidewalk cafes and chic locals with the Eiffel Tower in the background paints an idyllic picture.  However, a sightseeing vacation with a packed schedule in a place where you don’t speak the language may end up feeling more stressful than fun.  Mind you, lounging on a beach during your entire trip isn’t the only way to relax.  Just make sure that you schedule some downtime into your honeymoon, no matter where you decide to visit.

Forgetting Contraceptives

Unless you are planning to start your family right away, make sure that you plan ahead and bring your preferred method(s) of birth control on your honeymoon.  That way, you can rest easy knowing you will get to enjoy your time as newlyweds well before assuming the role of parents!

Getting a Room out of Your Budget

Although you may be tempted to splurge on the honeymoon suite, it is probably unnecessary if you plan on exploring your destination at all.  It doesn’t hurt to mention that you will be newlyweds if you call to make your reservation, as many hotels and resorts will give you a room upgrade simply to ensure you have a sensational honeymoon stay with them.  Having extra money to spend by saving on your accommodations will allow you to enjoy your vacation to the fullest.

Booking a Cheap Flight

While you may not be able to afford first-class tickets just yet, inexpensive flights on the other end of the spectrum may leave you miserable.  Flying with discount airlines may be more trouble than the savings are worth; likewise, booking flights that have multiple connections may cause you to miss precious honeymoon time if one of them happens to be delayed.  Nothing kills the buzz of newlywed bliss quicker than being stranded in an airport overnight.  Spending a little more on a comfortable itinerary that will get you there faster is worth splurging on.

Leaving RIght After Your Wedding

Leaving RIght After Your WeddingThe idea of leaving your wedding reception and jumping into a limo that is headed straight to the airport may seem appealing until you think about all of the details that need to be worked out first, such as where to keep your luggage and passport during your wedding, figuring out who will deliver your wedding presents to your home, having to change out of your wedding attire at the airport and travel with it all, and so on.  Getting married can be an exhausting event, and hopping on a plane may be the last thing you want to do when it is all over.  Give yourselves a day or so to wind down from the excitement, open some gifts and get ready for your trip.

Traveling with Family or Friends

Of course, going on vacation with your loved ones can prove to be a fantastic time.  However, your honeymoon should be a trip that is just about the two of you!
